PAATH Alpha

The initial tests of the alien pathogen in rat labs revealed startling and horrific results. Some rats displayed increased aggression, attacking both their handlers and other subjects within the enclosures. Their reproduction cycles accelerated dramatically, with offspring showing signs of enhanced physical strength and resilience. However, not all outcomes were promising—many of the rats exhibited cannibalistic behavior, violently attacking and consuming weaker subjects, driven by a primal and insatiable hunger. These early tests highlighted the pathogen's potential for both evolution and devastation, setting the stage for further experimentation.

With these results, the research advanced to the PAATH-Alpha (or PAATH-0) Project, a new phase dedicated to exploring the pathogen’s effects on human subjects. The first human trial was conducted on a terminal cancer patient, chosen for her low chances of survival and lack of alternatives. Initially, the results were promising—her cancerous cells were eradicated, and her body began to regenerate at an astonishing rate. However, this transformation soon spiraled out of control. Her personality deteriorated, replaced by violent, animalistic behavior. Her physical form began to mutate, and her hunger for raw flesh became insatiable.

This patient, later identified as "Patient Zero," marked the first recorded instance of a zombie-like mutant created by the pathogen. No longer alive in a traditional sense, yet not entirely dead, she embodied the undead menace that would later plague countless other subjects. This catastrophic result pushed researchers to refine the compound further, but it also highlighted the chilling potential of the alien pathogen to destroy as much as it could heal. This turning point foreshadowed the horrors that would emerge as the project continued down its unethical path.
